Fairmont Empress Hotel VIctoria History
The Fairmont Empress Hotel opened in 1908 and functioned as a luxury resort for the Canadian Pacific steamship line. It soon attracted celebrities and wealthy clients of the day for decades to come.
Over the years it had fallen into such a state of neglect that it was almost demolished in 1966. However, since then it has seen significant upgrades and major renovations including a 45 million dollar restoration in 1989.
The Empress Hotel is now completely restored to its former elegance and charm and is once more attracting the rich and famous from around the world.
